Day Eight- Jokhang Temple and Market Shopping

Today we visited the Jokhang Temple. It was a beautiful building with ornate architecture. It was built over 400 years ago. There were many very sad moments during our visit for me personally. I felt very sorry for the people who were so lost and without hope. They were working so hard to burn incense in the correct manner, not step on door post, turn metal cylinders in the correct direction and chant prayers aloud for hours. I could say so much more but I think that this will be enough:

“You shall have no other gods beforeme.  You shall not make

for yourself an image in the form of anything

in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.”

Exodus 20:3-4

Then we found a local Market and did a little shopping. The local people are very kind to us and generally are very happy that we are carrying a Chinese baby. They are very amazed that we have three children…little do they know that we really have five!! Dad loves the shopping and being able to bargain for a lower price. He always laughs and is very proud of himself for getting good deals. We did find several Mongolian dress outfits for Melody today. We needed one for each year so we can celebrate Chinese New Year together as a family.

This was our final full day in Hohhot. We did a little swimming and then started to pack for Guangzhou! It is not as hard for me to leave here as it was Beijing. I was sad that our sweet girl was leaving the place that she had called home and the people at New Day that loved her so very much. It’s not the same feeling here. She only spent a very limited amount of time here and the excitement of our next stop is overshadowing the thought of leaving.

Melody had a good morning but a really tough afternoon and evening. Will you please pray for her? She is experiencing so many firsts and I am not so sure that she does well when she is not familiar with a situation. Please pray that Dad and I will have the wisdom to know what is best for this sweet girl.  We are going to love her through these hard days! Our God made her and we believe that He is able to heal her heart and allow her to find joy again! Today has been very hard on this Mom’s heart! I am emotionally drained. I contemplated not sharing this last paragraph but I am trying to “keep it real”! Adoption is one of God’s greatest blessing to our family but it is still full of challenge!

Good Night, for the last time, from Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, P.R. China! (My next post will be delayed. We do not land in Guangzhou until midnight tomorrow night. I will not post until the next morning! No need to worry about us:)

Joy, Thank you for keeping it real – you are on a journey and right now you are at a point that is hard but our God will give you strength and love, and this little girl needs to realize you will always be consistent with your love – get sleep when you can so you have what you need to stay strong.
